Our Book Club... finally!

After months of talk (exclaiming how great it would be to start a bookclub), I've finally done it! Thanks to my birthday celebration at Carly's with friends, I took the opportunity to announce tmy news to our dear group. It was truly sweet and unexpected that each of them gave me a little birthday gift. I thought it funny that I countered their gift-giving with the start of a bookclub, as a present for all of us.

For after every get together we say, "We should do this more often!" but then weeks go by, our lives resume to busy-ness, and it takes someone's initiative (after a month or so has passed) to get us together again. Well, I will wait no longer. I wish I could see them more often, so here we are.

I figured there should be some semblance of organization (or consistency), so the "rules" we agreed to were:
  1. Bookclub be held on the 4th Wed of each month 8p-10p (scheduled after dinner and as kids are put to bed)
  2. Reading is not required but attendance is ideal
  3. Hostess chooses the month's read

Updated 3/22/2010: I've started to keep track of the books we've read and where we've met for posterity's sake. We're in our 8th month and I couldn't be happier. Each of us has been introduced to books that we would have otherwise dismissed later to find it a worthwhile read.

Classical Conversations, Hamden CT

It’s official! We’re members of the Classical Conversations family. After attending the Open House Informational, Open House classroom visit and 3-Day Parent Practicum, we decided it was a good fit and enrolled Rilla in the Foundations class. We will meet every Tuesday in Hamden, CT with about 20 other families, some traveling even farther than our 1 hr 10 min drive. Our first “day of school” is September 15th.
